SpyDeals
Shopping community app scaled to three markets
A deal-hunting community app for the Netherlands, Belgium and the UK: 250k+ downloads, 4.7★, and a build system that puts a new country live in a day.
Where it got to
The challenge
SpyDeals runs one of the largest deal communities in the Netherlands. Its revenue depends on how often members come back, find a deal and click through to a retailer. The web alone was capping that.
They needed a mobile app, and they needed it to travel. The same product was going to launch in Belgium and the UK under its own brand, and rebuilding it country by country was never going to pay for itself.
One codebase, every market

What it meant for the business
Expansion stopped being an engineering decision
Adding a country costs about a day instead of a rebuild. The business can test a market on commercial merit rather than on whether the budget stretches to another app.
A channel that brings people back on its own
Push notifications and saved deals give SpyDeals a way to reach members again without paying for the visit a second time. A web session offers nothing comparable.
Three storefronts, one team
The Netherlands, Belgium and the UK run from the same codebase and the same release toolkit. A fix written once reaches every market.
